WHITCHURCH Alport are through to the quarter finals of the FA Vase after a win on penalties at Coventry Sphinx.
The game finished 3-3 with Alex Hughes getting a hat-trick and Whitchurch down to ten men but they came through 4-3 in the penalty shoot out. Lichfield City and AFC Wulfrunians are level pegging in second place in the Midland Football League Premier. Both have 57 points after away wins. Wulfs won 3-1 at Tividale and City won 3-0 at Haughmond with goals from Dan Lomas, Jack Edwards and Charlie Shaw. Hanley Town are still 15 points clear at the top after an injury time goal from Reece Jones gave them a 1-0 win at Lye Town. Worcester City amissed a chance to gain ground when they lost 4-3 at home to Walsall Wood despite a late comeback. Wood had taken a four goal lead through Jai Verma, Phil McKerdy, Kaden May and Kev Monterio. Archie Muirhead and in injury time Cameron Monteith and Jamie Smith hit back but it wasn't enough. There was another seven goal thriller at Highgate who were edged out by Stone Old Alleynians 4-3. Jack Tomlinson, Aaron Williams and Luke Shearer were on target for Highgate whilst Jack Tomlinson got two for Stone along with one each for David Ablewhite from the spot and Sam Wilson. Bewdley Town are still bottom but only by goal difference after a 2-1 win over Uttoxeter, Paul Hughes giving the away side the lead before Dylan Hart and David McDermott hit back. Improving Stourport Swifts thrashed Wolverhampton Casuals 5-0 with goals from ex Albion striker Lee Hughes, Lee Chilton, Joe and Jim Hanson and Martin Slevin. In the first division Stapenhill gained a point on leaders Atherstone Town with a 3-1 win at Chelmsley Town, with Atherstone drawing 2-2 at AFC Bridgnorth. Alport are the last Midland Football League side in the competition and will be taking a sizeable contingent of supporters from Shropshire with them tomorrow. League action partly concentrates on the race for second place, Tividale and AFC Wulfrunians meeting at The Beeches and Lichfield City travelling to Haughmond. Boldmere St Michaels don't hae a game but Worcester City - another team with hopes of a top two finish - are at home to Walsall Wood. At the other end of the table, Bewdley Town are at home to Uttoxeter Town. The top two in the first division are both away, Atherstone Town at AFC Bridgnorth and Stapenhill at Chelmsley Town.
