Capelli Sport MFL Premier round-up & Step 5/6 results – Saturday, October 17

ABBEY Hulton United and Cheadle Town turned the tables on the league’s top two on a day of upsets in the Premier Division.

Leaders Winsford United suffered a 2-0 defeat at Abbey Hulton who bagged the points with a quick-fire double midway through the second half.

Following an even first half, the game turned when the visitors had Ashton Brogan sent off early in the second half for an off the ball incident.

The opening goal came on 62 minutes when Matt Ward’s shot was parried by the keeper and Tim Grice turned the rebound into the bottom corner. Two minutes later Abbey doubled their lead when Aaron Bott crossed and Jack Gumbley slotted home.

Cheadle Town were surprise 1-0 winners at second-placed Runcorn Town. Tom Jones scored before half-time and the visitors also missed a penalty when Will Ebbrell saved Keane Barugh’s spot kick late on.

Brocton were the day’s biggest winners as they eased to a 5-1 victory at home to basement club Tividale. Reg Smith bagged a brace with the others coming from Morgan Payne, Jake Thomas and Christian Blanchette. Isiaha Beaumont scored for the visitors.

There was no shortage of goals at Castlecroft where visitors Lye Town beat AFC Wolverhampton City 6-5. For the visitors the goals came from Joe Clarke, Alfie Steward, Alfie Didlock, an own goal and a Luke Sidaway double. Logan Trainer and Oliver West scored two goals apiece for the hosts with the other coming from Jacob Wedderburn.

A penalty from Jayden Hunter capped Sutton United’s 4-0 win at home to Stockport Georgians. Aidan Mee and Red Simmons gave the Birmingham side a two-goal lead at the break with Joe Gildea adding a third early in the second period.

The points were shared between Wythenshawe Town and Romulus who drew 1-1, Dylan Bailey for the visitors after Inacio Djalo Bande had opened the scoring with a penalty.

Ollie Holden and Adam Hailes fired Whitchurch Alport to a 2-0 win at home to Uttoxeter Town and a Freddie Cockerell effort was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Sporting Khalsa in their Black Country derby with Darlaston Town.
