MFL Premier and Division One round-up and fixtures – Saturday, September 12

Lightning struck twice as Jordan Johnson’s pair of thunderbolts saw Winsford United move 11 points clear at the Capelli Sport Midland Football League summit with a 3-0 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton.

A nip-and-tuck game, watched by 1,002 at Brookburn Road, was lit up by Johnson’s sweet hit from all of 30 yards midway through the second half.

Johnson then proved it was no fluke with a curler into the top corner from similar range and Danny Guiver added gloss to the score with a neat lob on the break five minutes from time.

It was the only Premier Division game to go ahead, meaning United’s fifth straight win opened up quite the gap at the top, albeit having played up to four more league games than some rivals.

Heather St John’s became the first team to take anything from Division One leaders Gornal Athletic this season with a 0-0 draw at Garden Walk, Mitch Botfield seeing a header cleared off the line for the Peacocks in the second half.

Brady Middleton’s double saw Lutterworth Athletic chalk up a sixth straight victory and move up to second in the table with a 2-0 win at FCV Grace Dieu on the day that the hosts unveiled Jack Hobbs as their new manager following the departure of Shane Clarke and his coaching staff.

Northfield Town made it four wins in a row and in style by beating GNG Oadby Town 6-1.

Josh Westwood put Northfield ahead within the opening minute and while Mandeep Bains soon equalised, Rob Shaw, Maradoche Mipro and Romano Graham put the hosts in a commanding position by half-time.

Two more in the final five minutes saw Graham bring up his hat-trick as Northfield climbed to third in the table.
